Director of Social Services

Director of Social Services is responsible for the coordination and supervision of case management, social services, and utilization review services which primarily involves discharge planning; coordination of healthcare services across the continuum; optimizes clinical and financial outcomes in the delivery of patient care; identifies priorities; and collects, interprets, and analyzes clinical and financial data. Assists departments with issues involving medical necessity, and reimbursement. Provides technical support and monitors the day-to-day case activity among the case managers to ensure the proper management and movement of the cases and the maximization of cost containment. May supervise other office staff as well, depending on operational needs.  

 

Qualifications

  • B.S.N. with RN required. Masters and/or advanced study in a health-related field desired.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification or eligibility required in at least one of the following: C.R.C., C.C.M., C.O.H.N., C.R.R.N. or C.D.M.S.
  • 3-5 years of prior Utilization Review and Case Management experience required.

  • Social Services & Discharge Planning experience preferred.

  • Computer literacy required.

     

 

Skill and Ability

  • Monitoring case manager and support staff activity to ensure that the caseload is distributed appropriately, the services delivered are in keeping with Wayne HealthCare quality standards, and that the office operates efficiently with respect to the caseload.
  • Reassigning the workload as needed to maximize productivity.
  • Assessing billing reports and conducts case reviews for progress, quality, and accuracy.
  • Providing technical support to case managers by fully understanding workers’ compensation regulations and the current legal issues pertaining to this industry.
  • Hiring support staff, firing, disciplining and documenting employees.
  • Working with case managers to establish goals.
  • Identifying and supervising ongoing staff training to ensure proficiency and technical competence among employees.
  • Reporting card data and assisting with the pay role function within the department.
  • Performing 90 day and annual evaluations of staff
  • Performs and promotes interdepartmental integration and collaboration to enhance the continuity of care for all groups and individuals for which Wayne HealthCare provides care.
  • Identifies issues that may delay patient discharge and facilitates the resolution of these issues.
