Central Scheduler - Full Time, 1st Shift, 1.0 FTE

This full time position will be for day shift working in Central Scheduling, weekend and holiday rotation required. This position is responsible for schedule of all inpatient and outpatient-scheduled assigned appointments. The individual will be cross trained to multiple areas within the Registration Department. This position reports to the Director and Supervisor of Patient Access.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance plans related to medical coverage offered by these plans and understanding of pre-certification, pre-determination, and medical necessity of these plans preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Minimum of three years experience in health care field preferred
  • Associates degree in Medical Office Administration or related field preferred

Responsibilities/Skills:

  • Responsible for scheduling of all inpatient and outpatient-scheduled assigned appointments for laboratory, cardiopulmonary and radiology departments from physicians, physician offices, patients and hospital staff
  • Responsible for contacting insurance companies for verification of benefits, pre-authorization, and follow up on pre-certification.
  • CPT coding and patient needs related to their diagnosis for appropriate scheduling and insurance reimbursement
  • Analyzes patient’s financial responsibilities and attempts to collect payment at time of scheduling/precertification.
  • Offers financial counseling to patient if deems necessary.
  • Provides special instructions for procedures and directions to facilities and departments. Performs report reconciliation and charge verification card in pulmonary and radiology departments from physicians, physician offices, patients and hospital
  • Contacts physician offices for patient information, op orders, medical necessity and prior-authorization requirements when needed.
  • Coordinates information with Case Management regarding pre-certification requirements (for inpatient and outpatient surgeries)
