Medical Coder - Full Time, 1st Shift 1.0 FTE
This is full time position will be for day shift M-F working 8:00-4:30 in the HIM department.
Qualifications:
- Required- Associate's Degree in Medical coding or successful completion of a certification program: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- A strong understanding of physiology, medical terms and anatomy
- Proficiency in computer skills including typing speed and accuracy
- Mathematics skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information
- Strict attention to details
- Customer Service knowledge/training preferred.
- HIPAA regulations/knowledge required
Responsibilities/Skills but are not limited to:
- Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes
- Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations
- Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear
- Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation
- Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual
- Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy
- Review patient charting for evaluation and coding
- Ensure that all codes are current and active
- Maintains or exceeds established productivity and quality standards.
- Practices and adheres to the Wayne HealthCare’s Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Value statement. .
