Patient Access Representative - Full Time, 1st Shift, 1.0FTE

This full time position is primary to 1st shift working 40 hours per week but may be scheduled based on patient needs and the needs of the department. This position creates accurate and thorough registration records for each patient visit and interacts in a customer-focused and compassionate manner to ensure patients’ and their representatives’ needs are met. This position functions under the general supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor, Patient Access Director, and also takes direction form the CFO.

Qualification:

  • Previous work experience in customer service and general clerical/office procedures.
  • One-year experience in a hospital, medical office/clinic, or insurance company preferred.
  • Medical Terminology Certification preferred.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice.
  • May bend, stoop, twist, lift files, books, supplies and other documents up to 50lbs.

Responsibility:

  • Responsible for scheduling of all inpatient and outpatient-scheduled assigned appointments for laboratory, cardiopulmonary and radiology departments from physicians, physician offices, patients and hospital staff.
  • Responsible for contacting insurance companies for verification of benefits, pre-authorization, and follow up on pre-certification.
  • Analyzes patient’s financial responsibilities and attempts to collect payment at time of scheduling/precertification.
  • Provides special instructions for procedures and directions to facilities and departments.
  • Provides schedules to participating departments.
  • Greet patients, obtain necessary signature of consent for treatment and insurance forms.
  • Offers financial counseling to patient if deems necessary.
  • Performs report reconciliation and charge verification card in pulmonary and radiology departments from physicians, physician offices, patients and hospital
  • Contacts physician offices for patient information, op orders, medical necessity and prior-authorization requirements when needed
  • Coordinates information with Case Management regarding pre-certification requirements (for inpatient and outpatient surgeries)
  • All other duties assigned
