Wayne HealthCare's July Events
Summer is in full swing, and there's a lot happening at Wayne HealthCare this month. Whether you're looking to support a good cause, get stronger, prepare for a new baby, or just have a fun night out, there's something on the calendar for you. Here's a rundown of everything going on in July, plus one event you'll want to save the date for in September.
July 1: Eat Wings, Raise Funds
Kick off the month by grabbing dinner for a good cause. Head to Buffalo Wild Wings at 1485 Wagner Avenue in Greenville on Wednesday, July 1 between 4:00 and 9:00 pm. Mention the Wayne HealthCare Foundation fundraiser when you order (dine in or takeout), and Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 15% of your total bill to the Foundation. It's an easy way to support local healthcare while enjoying a meal with family or friends.
Starting July 7: Free Strength Training for Older Adults
Geri-Fit strength training classes kick off July 7 and run through August 27, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the Wayne HealthCare Harrison Entrance, Community Room 1. This program is built specifically for older adults, with most exercises done seated in chairs using light dumbbells. It's evidence-based and has been shown to improve strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and gait, while helping manage chronic disease and ease arthritic symptoms.
Classes are led by a certified Geri-Fit instructor and are suitable for any fitness level, so there's no need to worry about where you're starting from. Best of all, it's free. To enroll, contact Robyn Feitshans at 937.569.6504 or robyn.feitshans@waynehealthcare.org.
July 13, 16 and 20: Special Beginnings Classes
For expecting and new parents, our Special Beginnings classes cover the essentials. The two week childbirth series meets Mondays, July 13 and 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and walks you through pregnancy, labor, and coping skills, including pain relief options like massage, relaxation, breathing, and medication. A tour of the obstetrics department is included.
Our breastfeeding class meets Thursday, July 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, led by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who covers the physiology of milk production, prenatal preparation, positioning techniques, and common challenges new moms face.
Both classes are held at Wayne HealthCare Community Room 1 (use the Harrison entrance). They're free for mothers planning to deliver at Wayne HealthCare. For those delivering elsewhere, childbirth classes are $50 and breastfeeding classes are $10. Call 937.547.5755 to register or learn more.
July 14: Diabetes Wellness Program
If you or someone you love is managing diabetes, this free session is worth your time. "Highs and Lows of Blood Glucose: What Every Person with Diabetes Should Know" takes place Tuesday, July 14, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at Wayne HealthCare Community Room 2 (835 Sweitzer St., Greenville, Harrison Street entrance). You can attend in person or join virtually via Zoom.
Participants will learn practical strategies for preventing high and low blood sugar and how to respond safely when they happen. RSVP by July 13 to Karen Droesch at 937.569.6750 or karen.droesch@waynehealthcare.org.
July 15: Do Good with Chipotle
Support Breast Cancer Awareness of Darke County by grabbing dinner at Chipotle on Wednesday, July 15, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm (1437 Wagner Ave, Greenville). Order for pickup using code G86Y7HY, or just show the flyer in the restaurant. Twenty five percent of event sales will be donated to the cause, so it's a simple way to help while feeding the family.
All Summer Long: Sports Physicals Summer Special
Get your student athlete ready for the season with a $10 sports physical, available now through September 4 at Wayne Primary Care and Walk-In Care locations. Appointments are preferred, though walk-ins are accepted based on availability. This is a cash-only special that won't be billed to insurance, and everyone who gets a physical receives a free cinch bag.
Extended evening hours are available in July on Tuesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 23, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, in addition to regular hours.
- Greenville Office: 828 Central Avenue, Greenville, (937) 569-6996. Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, closed for lunch 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
