Darke County / Community Links

Darke County, Ohio is home to over 52,000 people who reside in eight different villages and cities and exemplify the midwestern ideals of hard work and neighborly cooperation. Named after Lt. Col. William Darke, a Revolutionary war-officer, and birthplace of famed sharpshooter and entertainer Annie Oakley, the county is the only “Darke County” in the entire Unites States. And, at 605 square miles, it’s the eighth largest of Ohio’s 88 counties. Darke County is a family-friendly area with convenient access to some of Ohio’s largest cities, making it a unique combination of small town charm and big city amenities.

There is plenty to do in Darke County and the surrounding areas, including historical attractions, museums, outdoor activities, shopping, and plenty of recreational opportunities you won’t find in many other places, like a fully operational motor speedway. Darke County is a great place to live, learn, and work—filled with friendly people, good schools, and an innovative spirit that’s alive and well.
