Auxiliary
Our goal is simple...We want to serve.
That’s why the 120 active volunteers at Wayne HealthCare are such an important part of patient care. From admission to dismissal, volunteers are on hand to make each patient’s stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
Our Hospital’s gift shop, The Sunshine Nook, is managed by volunteers. They are responsible for buying and stocking all the special gifts, stuffed toys, magazines and other items, as well as making all the silk flowers and floral arrangements that are found in our shop.
Working with the Dietary Department, volunteers pass out menus and help patients make meal choices. They man the reception desk for a few hours in the morning and afternoon to help patients and visitors find their destinations. Main desk volunteer “escorts” wait to receive their next duty, which could be anything from helping a patient into a wheelchair, to delivering mail, flowers or gifts, to assisting a patient to the car. They also knit baby caps for all the newborn babies in "Special Beginnings” department, with over 7000 caps given to Wayne HealthCare newborns over the years.
The volunteer group is a member of the Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio Society Director of Volunteer Services (OSDVS). All active members are members of Wayne HealthCare Auxiliary. The Wayne HealthCare Auxiliary holds several fundraisers throughout the year, with bake sales, quilt raffles, book and jewelry sales, and The Sunshine Nook sales proceeds all going back to the Hospital.
Throughout our fundraising efforts, we’ve recently been able to donate much-needed equipment, such as:

- Stair Chair
- Communication Boards
- Patient Recliners
- Arm Egometers
- Roller Boards
- Floor Stand Infection Prevention Station
- Sweat Suits for the Emergency Department
To show our appreciation for our volunteers, Wayne HealthCare honors them for their dedication and hard work at the annual spring recognition luncheon. As the Hospital continues to expand, we believe the need for Volunteer Services will also grow.
